These are the words fro the chants this weekend at the rite. MP3s will be available this evening at http://www.cedarlightgrove.org/samhain.php

Fire Well and Tree Chorus
By Fire and by Water, between the Earth and Sky
We stand like the World-Tree rooted deep, crowned high.

Portal Song
Gatekeeper open the portals,
Between the Gods and mortals,
Power freely flows,
As our magic grows.

Praise Offering Chant
Let our voices rise on the Fire
Let our voices resound in the Deep
May the spirits accept what we offer,
As we honor the old ways we keep.

Waters of Life Chant
Pour the waters
Raise the cups
Drink your share of wisdom deep
Strength and joy now fill us up
As the elder ways we keep

Centering, Grounding, & Merging ALISON
Meditation:
Close your eyes, clear your thoughts.  Relax. As you breathe, feel the earth beneath your feet.  The blades of cold grass, the squishy mud.  Feel the roots of a tree extending down, into the soil, past the insects and worms, towards the pulsing heart of the earth. Come back to your center.  Notice your skin.  Hard, grey, supporting, protecting.  Nothing can hurt you. Extend your thoughts upwards now, to the sun warming your leaves, the wind whispering through your branches.  There are birds perched, singing a carefree song.  It is getting colder, the sun is not as warm, the wind whispers a bit louder. Your leaves become brittle, and fall to the ground.  Your bark is exposed to the harsh world, but your roots, strong, run deep into the earth.  Open your eyes.  See around you the other trees in this forest.  Most, like you, have shed their leaves for this season.  Know that you have done this many times before.  Know, too, that color will return with the warmth.  So
it has been, and so it will always be.  You have seen generations of creatures begin and end, seen the triumphs and the tears of the world.  To you, life is a blur, time is endless.  You are a tree, eternal.

Grove Chant:   Walk now with me; Within our sacred grove,
   Holly, Pine and Cedar; Apple Vine and Heather;

This sounds more like a small group's personal rite than one where members of the grove can participate in. I understand that the dedicant's program people are running it, but I kinda thought it was still going to be a grove High Rite (with more than just the DP involvement). Since it has the feel (at least to me) of a personal rite, I guess me and the 2 girls that wanted to come, can just do our own rite, here at home. Good luck to all the DP people - hope all go's well. Please see my Hussah's on under Grove Discussion & Samhain.  Big Hussahs to the group who put this ritual together.  I know how hard you worked for over 2 months order to put it together.  I want to express my heartfelt gratitude.  I have to go to DC early that AM but I should be back in time.  The key here is that you have allowed me to do something important and I don't have to worry about the ritual.

Hussah!

Hope I don't offend too much! In the Samhain Ritual you have "Establishing the Group Mind". Beg pardon, but what "Group Mind"? Are we bees or sheep or a school of fish? We can be together but be free in heart and mind. Respecting and accepting that can bring unity in our objectives, at least, and maybe we'll be able to "do something", like our Adopt a Highway commitment, for the Earth we claim to love.
Vive la diference!

Part of EVERY ADF rite has a section where you bring everyone to the same place mentally and physically. This is NOT something new to this ritual. There are many articles on ADF.ORG and there is info in your ADF member pack if you joined.

Think of it more like getting everyone on the same page of music.  In order to do any kind of magic there has to be a common focus and the clearer that focus, the more powerful the magic.  This rite is more of a celebratory rite but it is nice to get folks to let go of their daily stresses and focus in on the ritual without having them running their laundry list or whatever else through their minds.

Personally, I like the idea of different people taking charge of different ritual. Eventually, and hopefully, I will know enough to participate in the writing and organzing of a service. I appreciate the liturgy being posted beforehand, so I can print it out and really reflect on what we will be doing. I know a lot of effort and hard work has gone into this Samhain service. I appreciate it very much.  I still am hoping that perhaps we can do Z's liturgy at Highland. It too was very beautiful and well thought out.  Let's learn from each other.  We have so much talent and so much ability in this Grove, that there is no limit to what we can do, if we focus our energy in the right direction.  I look forward to seeing everyone at Samhain.  (And let me know if the lawn needs cutting Saturday morning!)

Thanks Jack....a lot of hard work did go into this ritual...this was for us a labor of love....when you want to be active in the planning, just sit in on liturgy meetings...if I'm not mistaken you did sit in on one meeting as did Chasos (sp)..I think one or two others did as well....will see you Saturday...thanks for the kind words.....

Jesus.  It's interesting the things people will choose to bring down.  Such as giving the Senior Druid a break for once and actually having members learn about ADF liturgy.

Those in the Dedicants Program should be doing this rite. Remember, last year at Samhain they dedicated themselves to this course and have evidently stuck to it. It,s great when someone says they are going to do a thing and actually follow through with it.
As to my question about Group Mind, I was being a bit sarcastic, and I agree, if it means leaving all the garbage behind.

I really would like to learn more about liturgy and thealogy, so if I can make future meetings, I will try to. I am truly looking forward to Samhain tomorrow evening.  If there is anything I can do to help, just let me know.
