Divination Social, Anyone?

Hello all!  This is [you guessed it] Aleja, using Scotty's account.  As per usual.

So, I had this nifty idea (shortly after the wellness weekend, actually) of having a Cedarlight members (and friends?) gathering where we could all bring our favorite forms of divination, discuss our favorite methods and books, do swap-readings for each other, and perhaps enjoy a potluck meal.  If need be, we could also charge a $5 cover fee for upkeep of the space.

I'm hoping to present a plan to the witan at the Online meeting on Monday June 29th, but before then I'd like to see if there's interest in helping me facilitate this!  We especially need to figure out a date, as my schedule fills up quickly and I'm sure others have the same problem.  Right now my proposed date options are as follows:

- 15 August 2015, in the afternoon/evening.  This is a Saturday, and it conflicts with rhythm fest, but the Moon Rite set for that day has been withdrawn from the schedule, as Taryn thinks she won't have time to do a Moon Rite right after Lughnasadh.

- 5 September 2015, in the afternoon/evening.  This is also a Saturday.

- 19 September 2015, in the afternoon/evening.  Again, a Saturday.

If people would prefer a Sunday, we could also do the Sundays immediately following those days, provided there is enough time after the planning meetings and there are no other workshops that need to be scheduled.

Love the idea! Sundays are easiest for us but Saturdays can work if we don't plan to attend on Sunday too.  My preference would be for September and the 5th is the farthest from any gear up to a High Rite.

So... how about September 6th after any necessary Mabon Planning?  Even if that happens, we could still start by, say, 2pm.

We could use this as the Mabon fundraiser if we make it $5 per 5-10 minute reading instead of $5 for the whole thing. Yes? No? If yes, then it may be better to do this on a different weekend as 9/6 is Labor Day weekend. I will be away probably and I don't know if other folks will as well. Mabon is most likely going to be low key, so I even would be ok with doing this the afternoon of Mabon before the High Rite. I wanted to put my thoughts here because I have to work during the Witan meeting on Monday. I did put this on the agenda.

Well... the point of it being a social instead of paying for readings is that we tried the paying-for-readings thing at the Wellness Weekend, and very few of our readers got any practice, honestly.  So Lynda and I had been thinking that really, swapped readings and discussion was really more what we wanted.

And speaking of discussion, maybe people with a lot of experience in one form or another could give a short like 10 minute presentation, if they wanted?  Like I know a lot of people still aren't familiar with John Weller's lithomancy system - not everyone made it to his workshop.  (Not to put him on the spot, though.)  Or maybe I could talk a little bit about how sometimes my Tarot cards act like oracle cards instead, and I end up taking inspiration from the artwork instead of the traditional meaning.  (Also, I'm working on an Oracle set of my own, and I suppose I could talk about that, too!)

Oooh, I'd not realized that was Labor Day.  So maybe scratch that weekend.  Though I'd really like to hear about availability from others!

So this was approved by the Witan and is now on the Calendar for Sept. 13th (that's a Sunday) after WWTOO, as "Seer Swap and Workshop".

I am in the process of following up with a few folks to see if they would like to do a short presentation as part of the Workshop aspect, but if anyone I haven't contacted (mostly via facebook) would like to do a short presentation, please let me know ASAP so I can finish the write-up for the Upcoming Events page on the website, and the Facebook Event!
