Meditation:
Close your eyes, clear your thoughts. Relax. As you breathe, feel the earth beneath your feet. The blades of cold grass, the squishy mud. Feel the roots of a tree extending down, into the soil, past the insects and worms, towards the pulsing heart of the earth. Come back to your center. Notice your skin. Hard, grey, supporting, protecting. Nothing can hurt you. Extend your thoughts upwards now, to the sun warming your leaves, the wind whispering through your branches. There are birds perched, singing a carefree song. It is getting colder, the sun is not as warm, the wind whispers a bit louder. Your leaves become brittle, and fall to the ground. Your bark is exposed to the harsh world, but your roots, strong, run deep into the earth. Open your eyes. See around you the other trees in this forest. Most, like you, have shed their leaves for this season. Know that you have done this many times before. Know, too, that color will return with the warmth. So
it has been, and so it will always be. You have seen generations of creatures begin and end, seen the triumphs and the tears of the world. To you, life is a blur, time is endless. You are a tree, eternal.
