The Poe Time of Year
« on: December 01, 2008, 08:38:23 PM »
With many thanks to Jack for the reminder, its time to get tickets for the Poe Birthday celebration. It's Mr. P's big 200. Now that is oooolllddd.  The tickets are not on sale yet, but will be soon, and will go fast.  We must plan on having our order ready to mail not later than 21 Dec or there abouts.  For details pls see http://poebicentennial.com/tickets.html

The tickets are $30 ordered in advance and $35 at the door (if available often sold out). John Astin will return with his celebration of Mr. Poe. This year the celebration has moved to two weekends:

Saturday, January 17 and Sunday, January 18, 2009
Saturday, January 31 and Sunday, February 1, 2009

Prior years have had Sat eve shows starting at 7pm, and Sunday afternoon starting at about 2pm, though I don't see any times posted yet.  We don't have to submit a collective order, but it is easier to get a block of tickets that way. Though it is also fun to "mix" with others as it is quite a sociable kind of audience.  If you're wanting me to order a collective block, lets decide on a date in the next week or so; and get your $30 into me sometime by 14 Dec.

I'm inclined to the Sat Jan 17 show, and leaving Sunday afternoons free for regularly scheduled  CLG programming.  Is there a weekend scheduled for Imbolc yet? Sat 31 Jan?  Sat 07 Feb?

(((hugs))) will

Hmmm.. never done the "Poe" thing.  Might be interesting.  Does it take place at his grave site, his old home?

Some people dress up and some don't.  It's held in the building that Poe's grave is just outside of.  The home page and the events page at
http://poebicentennial.com/events.html  has a more complete listing of events.

Its a fun evening of diversion.

I've been to Poe's grave before, but I've not been to the birthday thing. Every time I've been up there was in the summer, so I'm not too sure about heat unless they're doing the program up in the actual church and not in the basement crypts. The crypts give me the creeps.

What's parking like up there? Last time I went, I was also attending a paranormal investigation conference down in Davidge Hall, so we parked at a garage blocks away from the Poe grave and trooped up as a large group in the evening.

Its on street parking in the area.  The event is in the building, kind of a sit down theater kind of thing but sometimes the theater comes down into the audience.

It looks like everyone will be going on the 17th.  I've added it to the calendar.  Let Will know if you want a ticket.

I'm struggling between this and another event.  I don't want to make Will wait any longer before buying tickets though, so I guess I will bug out this time.
