Lughnasadh Charity: Pagan Military Support
« on: March 21, 2010, 09:37:00 AM »
As you may have noticed on the front page this morning, we are preparing early for our Lughnasadh Charity event, thanks to member Debbie B who is heading this up.

From now until Lughnasadh we are collecting items for care packages to send out to military pagans overseas.

We are working with the Operation Circle Care group at Circle Sanctuary to accomplish this, as they have much experience in dealing with these types of charity events.

A list of items that we will be collecting is posted on our website here:
http://www.cedarlightgrove.org/lughnasadh-charity-supporting-our-military-pagans/

I would also suggest that, to also support our internal membership (and because it's generally much cheaper than you will find anywhere else), that most of these items be purchased (if possible) from Magicks Mystic Blessings in Rosedale, co-run by our very own Bennu.

I do not believe they have a website, but they are not far from the Grove and Bennu can give you any additional information on the store that you need.

We will still be having another charity event around Midsummer as well, but likely that will be a spring clean-up of some sort and not in need of financial donations.  More information will be posted on that as it becomes available.

Oh, Ashley would you be willing to make up a flier for this?

I bought a book of stamps and 2 boxes of envelopes (and saved the receipts) to donate for the purpose of mailing out fliers of workshops and events.

Incidentally, the SD for Three Cranes Grove, ADF in Ohio has sent me a message asking if they can team up with us on this charity drive.

Also remember to keep your receipts!

I think we should definitely partner with Three Cranes for this drive.  We could even make it a fun competition between our two Groves.

That is fantastic about Three Cranes wanting to do this!!  Are they wanting to send things to us or are they sending theirs to Circle Sanctuary themselves?  It doesn't matter to me.  I'll consider it part of my offering to mail everything.

I wonder, if we should send out an email to all the groves and invite them to do the same for Lughnasadhe?  Oh I am so happy about this!

May I offer up our contributions to Lugh at Lughnasadhe?  I would so very much love to do this, with everyone putting their energies into the items as well.

They may mail the offerings themselves, I will double-check.

I could certainly send out a bulletin to other Grove's to see if they want to do this as well :D

I think offering them up for a blessing during Lughnasadh is a -fantastic- idea.  I think that is VERY appropriate :D

I know Taryn has already sent out feelers about leading Lughnasadh since it will be her last ritual at CLG before her move to Scotland and since Lugh is her patron.  What say you Taryn?  Can we bless these offerings to soldiers during Lughnasadh?

Dude, that was why I suggested we move this charity to Lughnasadh instead of Midsummer; it will be PERFECT for blessing these offerings!! :D

I adore the idea of partnering up with other groves for this drive!!! A friendly competition would be in the perfect spirit of the holiday, as well would be a way to connect ADF groves across the country and give a really good showing of just what Pagans can do to when they put their minds to it!  ;)

(How much fun would it be to make it a yearly tradition? I know, I know, that's a little far ahead in the future, but just something that popped in my head. >.> )

Exciting!!!

I will send out the email then.  Debbie, did you have anything in particular you wanted me to say or that you request?  Did you want to write up the blessing for these items since you are in charge of the charity?  If not, did you have ideas for the blessing of the items?

Oh yes, I most definitely will have a prayer for blessing! Give me time to pray upon it, but yes, I most definitely will.

Lets see, about the email, ...Put it out as an Invite...something about the unity of the Groves in showing support for our fellow Pagans serving overseas or in Theatre and harms way.  Something perhaps to suggesting, if they wish, to join with us in spirit at Lughnasadhe in offering the items for Lugh's blessing and protection.   Make sure to give original credit to Circle Sanctuary and how they are allowing us to work with them.

I trust your wording and thank you!  May the gods bless this effort.

This is wonderful.  Absolutely wonderful!

Now, are they sending everything to us to get mailed out or is each grove doing their own mailing?
Are they all offering the donations up on Lughnasadh like we are?

BTW can we order things, have it sent to circle sanctuary in  CLGs name and just put the receipt in the box?  Save postage and extra fossil fuels in not having to send it twice?
