CedarLight Grove, ADF is running at Lakota Star Quilt Charity Drive to support the Wounded Knee Visitor’s Center on Pine Ridge Reservation.
Our good friend Garry Rowland of the Fire Lightning Tiospaye has sent us a beautiful star quilt, or “Owinja”, to raffle off on their behalf. This charity drive will run from now until our Lughnasadh High Rite, and we will be selling tickets for $10 each, or 3 for $25, or 6 tickets for $50. A ticket will be drawn after the Lughnasadh High Rite, during revels.
The story behind the quilt, as spoken by Garry, is that back in the day before the coming of the whiteman, the buffalo robe was a prized possession before the buffalo disappeared. The Lakota Star Quilt replaced the robe, and it also represented the creator. The Lakota always made their prayers when the morning star appeared before the sun came out everyday. This is the special meaning of the quilt and it is highly regarded amongst many people.
We will be selling tickets for our raffle each weekend at the Grove, as well as any festivals we participate in.
You may buy your raffle tickets online, and we will email you a ticket #. You must submit your full name, address, email and phone number with your payment.
